■ Climate | A popular place for permanent residence with a comfortable climate

The Jurigi Highlands are located at an altitude from 900 to 1,200 meters between Mt. Fuji and Mt. Ashitaka, at the southern foot of Mt. Fuji near the 2nd Station. Just like Lake Yamanaka, the Jurigi Highlands are within 100 kilometers of central Tokyo—it takes just about 90 minutes to get there by car. This area is around 15 minutes (12.6 kilometers) by car from the Susono IC of the Tomei Expressway, and approximately 25 minutes by car from Gotemba Station. For that reason, it is drawing greater attention as a place of permanent residence in eastern Shizuoka Prefecture. Transit buses are also operated from Mishima and Gotemba.

From the Jurigi Highlands, you can also travel to the ocean (Numazu and Fuji-shi) and Hakone within one hour, allowing you to enjoy various types of leisure throughout the entire year.

The Jurigi Highlands feature natural forests that are unique to Mt. Fuji and forested areas with Japanese Cedar and Hinoki Cypress.

The area around the Management Office is a rich natural environment home to animals such as deer, foxes, and rabbits, as well as wild birds including Green Pheasants. In particular, at the Jurigi Highlands there are many rhododendrons that brilliantly color the vacation home area in the spring.

There is also a primeval Japanese Beech forest inside the vacation home area, allowing you to experience the natural world of Mt. Fuji that has been protected for hundreds of years.

History

Fujikyu was born in Fuji half a century ago. It carefully protects and cultivates the precious natural world of Mt. Fuji to preserve its ancient form, and has also worked to provide opportunities for people to recover their human qualities that allow them to accept nature in an easy, open fashion.

Fujikyu started the Japan Land Comprehensive Plan in 1964, with an impressive scale of approximately five million square meters in a vast, undeveloped plain at the southern foot of Mt. Fuji.

This project, based on the demands of the era, was a way for humans to enjoy nature and freely rejoice in the natural world.

Beginning from road improvement and including water services, the plan was implemented while carefully protecting the natural world and based on dialogues with local residents. In this way, Fujikyu created a large, ideal city by combining three vacation home zones and a range of leisure zones.

The basic plan was changed many times in order to conserve nature, based on the major theme of harmony between people and nature.

After many struggles, in 1965 Fujikyu successfully excavated a high-quality Fuji subterranean water vein and—thanks to this abundant water source—was able to adopt a centralized sewage processing system for the first time at a vacation home area. It completed water and sewage facilities of the same level found in cities.

Vacation home lots in the Jurigi Highlands resort area were first sold in 1966. Since then, this area—located at the Mt. Fuji 2nd Station—has become popular as a vacation home area that is close to leisure facilities, and is also known as one of the most prominent vacation home areas in the Mt. Fuji Area that is chosen by people as a permanent residence after retirement.
